Gulf of Mexico Telecommunications Network 

Type I DBSCs have demonstrated that connectors can be successfully installed without the need for divers; within I or J tubes on platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. The DBSCs have been used to install a fibreoptic communications network linking oil and gas production platforms and a regional operating centre. The connectors were configured to maximise the bend stiffeners torque, bending and shear forces, enabling connection to an existing platform riser tube 450ft (137m) below the surface.
