The Type II DBSC uses full ball and taper connectivity with a dedicated female receptacle. This DBSC is intended for installations where the compact, pre-machined, female receptacle is fixed to the 'I' or 'J' tube during the FPSO or buoys structural fabrication stage, for example.

The standard Type II (with tip clamp) DBSC requires ROV intervention to remove the tip clamp.

ROV-less DBSC Installation

First Subsea now offers the Type II with ROV-less installation for 'crowded' platforms and FPSOs where space is either limited or shallow water, splash zone, environments make a ROV impractical.

The Type II DBSC with a Weak Link disconnection system is designed to release the end fitting once the male DBSC has engaged within the female receptacle.

The Type II DBSC with an Automatic Release Clamp (ARC) disconnection system is attached to the riser end fitting and, once engaged with the female receptacle, uses a system of springs and dogs to release the end fitting from the DBSC. In addition, ARC's may be reset and re-used if required.

The Type II connector features a Trelleborg Offshore rubber spring to maintain the pre-load on the male connector's ball configuration – the corrosion resistant material offering a 25-30 year operational life, in preference to steel spring components commonly used.
