The Type III DBSC is a 'next generation', ROV-less, flexible riser and umbilical connector.

Both the Type I and Type II DBSCs require some level of ROV intervention. Further development of this DBSC technology by First Subsea and Trelleborg Offshore has produced the Type III - self-latching, ROV-less installation DBSC. It uses an integrated pull-in head locking mechanism, automatically de-latching when it is fully connected during pull-in operations eliminating further the requirements for ROV intervention during the installation.

The Type III DBSC connector is:

  • For 'crowded' platforms where space is limited or shallow water, splash zone, environments where a ROV intervention is impractical.
  • Designed to address the problem of the 'weak link' often experienced with some bend stiffener connectors where the connector can be 'over-pulled' leading to installation problems.
