The 'typical' deepwater mooring line comprises an anchor or pile capable of resisting vertical uploads, shackles, chains, connecting links such as H-links and Pear and Plate links, steel wire and synthetic rope.

Traditionally Mooring Line Jewellery such as H-link, Pearlink and Platelink connections are labour-intensive, and time consuming to produce offshore. Moreover, they are prone to being weakened by the bending moments experienced when deployed over the mooring boat's stern roller. This is less of a problem for short term MODU moorings, but is an area of concern for long-term, 30 year, deepwater moorings.

First Subsea has responded by developing:

  • a range of mooring line segment connectors that includes forged metal H-links and crossed H-links, and fabricated Pear / Plate links

  • the innovative LankoFirst range of fibre mooring connectors for deepwater moorings.
