First Subsea delivers Cable Protection System for Taiwan project

First Subsea has delivered beach landing Cable Protection Systems for three export cables on the 120MW Formosa 1 Phase 2 wind farm in Taiwan for Jan De Nul Group, EPCI contractor for delivery and installation of the project’s cables and foundations.

Three systems, each 250m in length were contracted in Feb 2019 and delivered on time at the end of March 2019. The protection system is designed for an export cable diameter of 158mm with a bending radius of 2.37m. First Subsea project manager, Ross Carrington, said, “The delivery deadlines were challenging but with the close cooperation and support of our client we successfully delivered another project with great positive feedback.”

The Formosa 1 Offshore Wind Farm, a joint venture of Ørsted (35%), JERA (32.5%), Macquarie Capital (25%) and Swancor (7.5%), is located in Miaoli County, Taiwan. It is Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm.
 
First Subsea sales and business development director, Greg Campbell-Smith, said ‘We are pleased to be part of this first OWF project in Taiwan which sets a milestone in the region.”

The Lancaster based company, part of the First Tech Group, has transitioned into the renewables market after 25 years in offshore Oil and Gas. It has installed Cable Protection Systems for fixed and floating offshore wind projects including Hornsea, East Anglia and Kincardine.
