Riser Handling Tool

First Subsea's Riser Handling Tools (RHT) are used for the deployment of risers in the offshore environment. The tool can be used for lifting and deployment of single and multiple risers during welding operations as they are designed to handle riser of any load, up to and over 1,600T.

The RHT uses ball and taper gripping technology to provide a powerful multi-point grip proportional to the load applied. This means once inserted, the tool automatically engages to grip the riser wall allowing the riser to be lifted and lowered. The tool is then disengaged for reuse on the next section of riser.

Riser Handling Tool features include:

  • Mechanical, ball and taper gripping mechanism – high reliability
  • No damage to risers during handling
  • No modification to riser required
  • Ability to independently move each riser within the main caisson
  • Ability to purge lines and pass inspection cameras through the riser handling tool

The RHT allows independent lifting and positioning of risers of any size, for welding to lower caisson section supported on the drill floor. A purge line can be connected through the tools so that once the weld is complete, the riser handling tool can be disconnected ready for repeat procedure with next caisson section.

All of First Subsea's RHTs are certified be DNV standard for Certification No. 2.22 Lifting Appliances.

Tendon Tool

First Subsea offers a range of handling tools for tubular steel members (tendons) used to moor a tension leg platform (TLP). The tools are capable of handling risers of any load and of any diameter. The tendon tools handle the tendons to allow them to be pulled in and tensioned till the TLP is permanently moored.

Tendon Tool features include:

  • Mechanical, ball and taper gripping mechanism – high reliability
  • No damage to tendons during handling
  • No modification to tendons required
  • Tendons of any diameter and wall thickness can be handled

The tendon handling tools use ball and taper connector technology to grip the tendon wall during handling operations. Due to the unique design of ball and taper technology, the tendon tools provide a powerful multi-point grip in proportion to the load applied, without damage to the tendon. The tendons also do not need any modification as the tools are bespoke to the client’s requirements

The tendon tool is able to accommodate varying tendon pipe wall thickness and inner diameters to achieve optimum handling operations.

All of First Subsea's tendon tools are certified by DNV Standard for Certification No. 2.22 Lifting Appliances.
